An 8-day adventure in the Western Cyclades: history and geology on Milos; Sifnos, the noble one; Serifos, the iron island. They are all very beautiful! Less well known than their famous eastern sisters, they delight the traveler with the charm of their landscapes and each with its own special character. The most famous statue of Venus comes from Milos (Milo). Its deposits of black obsidian ("volcanic glass") were intensively exploited in prehistoric times. The volcanic rock formations of its northern coast are among the most spectacular natural wonders in Europe. In ancient times, the Siphnians were among the richest Greeks thanks to their gold and silver mines; in Delphi they dedicated to Apollo the most magnificent "treasury", built entirely of white Parian marble and decorated with precious reliefs. From the chapel of Saint Symeon on one of the highest peaks of the island, one can enjoy one of the most beautiful panoramas of the archipelago. The abandoned Danae landed on Serifos with her son (and son of Zeus) Perseus; later, Perseus brought the head of Medusa to Serifos for his host, King Polydectes. Iron ore was mined here until the middle of the 20th century; the island's capital, Chora, with its Kastro, is one of the most beautiful Cycladic villages. An extra day is possible to visit Kimolos, the discreet; the small neighboring island of Milos. In the Middle Ages it was called "the Silver One" because of its silvery, kaolin-rich coasts. Its Chorio is one of the most authentic Cycladic villages.
