During this holiday, you will explore by bike and on foot three of the Cyclades, the islands of light. Paros: a typical Cycladic island in the heart of the Archipelago with golden sandy beaches, ancient marble quarries, picturesque villages, and pristine landscapes. Antiparos: a beautiful small island, opposite Paros, with a fortified medieval habitat in the heart of its main village. Naxos: the island of Dionysus and Ariadne, is the larger of the Cyclades with a mountainous inland, which includes the higher peak of the Cycladic islands, yet with vast sandy exotic coasts of unparalleled beauty, peaceful landscapes, beautiful villages, ancient sanctuaries, byzantine trails and many hidden gems to discover!

ITINERARY

Day 1: Welcome! Off to the islands. Paros first explorations

Early in the morning you will meet a member of out team at the port of Piraeus, about 45 minutes prior the departure of your ferry. Around 07h (depending on the season), you board the ferry towards the island of Paros, where you arrive after about 4h trip. After checking in at your hotel in Parikia, the island capital, you depart for your first explorations on the north of the island. First step: the ancient marble quarries of Marathi, where the famous Parian marble was extracted from underground galleries. You continue cycling. Your ride leeds to the picturesque village of Naousa; you walk towards its old fishing port. Afterwards, you cycle towards the bay of Kolymbythres, with its strange rocky formations and from there you walk, through a spectacular landscape, to the lighthouse of cap Korakas, the northernmost point of Paros. You return to Parikia on an alternative road. 3 nights in Parikia.

Day 2: Paros and the island of Antiparos

Today you go cycling southwards. You pass by the monastery of “Christos tou Dasous” (“Christ of the wood”) and you reach the “Butterflies-valley” (open only during summer). You arrive at Pounta, on the strait between Paros and Antiparos, from where you cross by ferry to the neighbor island; it takes about 10 minutes. You bike along the peaceful coast in front of the islet of Despotiko on the south of the island and then to the cave of Antiparos. You return to the unique village of Antiparos, where its medieval fortified settlement is extremely well preserved. In Aniparos, there are several beaches to choose for swimming. Late in the afternoon you take the boat back to Paros and Parikia.

Day 3: Paros. The island tour

After breakfast you take your bicycle and leave to round the major part of the island. You reach the famous beaches of the south, such as Alyki et Piso Alyki, Faragas, Glyfa, Pyrgaki, Golden Beach and Logaras. At the hamlet of Agios Ioannis Trypitis, a short but spectacular hike along a rocky path to the sea cave of Fanos, is possible. You eventually return to Parikia, where late on the afternoon you stroll through the picturesque alleys of the old village, towards the chapelle of Staints Costantine and Helene, on the top of the hill of Kastro, to admire a beautiful sunset.

Day 4: Last explorations on Paros. Trip to Naxos

As your ferry to Naxos depasts around noon, you have enough time for one last cycling tour in the area of Parikia: you ride towards the chapel of Agios Fokas, on Akrotiri peninsula. Near Agios Fokas, a short but spectacular hike is possible. In Parikia, if you haven't allready done, you visit the Paleochristian church of Panagia Katapoliani.  You board your ferry to Naxos, where you arrive after 45min. You can go for you first cycling tour in Naxos directly from the ferry (your luggage will be tranpoeted at your hotel) or you can just check in at your hotel, go for swimming and sunbathing at the nearby beach and then for an orientation walk in the traditional settlement. The best sunset view is from the Portara, the “Great Door” of Apollo’s sanctuary that stands over the ruins of the ancient temple. 4 overnights in Chora or Agios Georgios.

- Cycling on Naxos: about 23km, +475m/-475m, circular, moderate

Day 5: The SW of Naxos and its spectacular exotic coast

After breakfast, you go cycling little through the inland and then along the west coastline of Naxos. First you cross a fertile plane towards the archeological site of Iria, with the excavation of Dionysus’s sanctuary. Through the picturesque villages of Agios Arsenios and Tripodes you soon reach the highest point of the day, at 170m and then, after a long panoramic downhill ride you reach the bay of Aliko with its beautiful golden sandy beach and crystalline turquoise waters, where you can swim. Dunes, cade trees and tamarisks characterize the landscape, forming a unique, also protected, ecosystem. Now you bike northwards along the west coast; vast exotic sandy beaches and sparkling blue sea. Eventually, through Agia Anna you return to Agios Georgios and Chora.
Cycling: 48km, + 440m / -440m, moderate

Day 6: The picturesque inland and Mount Zas

Today you will experience the inland of Naxos and climb its hightest pick. You ride your bike towards the center of the island, you pass trough the villages of Potamia, Chaliki and Filoti, to reach the chapel of Agia Marina, on the slopes of Mount Zas. You lock your bikes and go hiking. You climb the highest peak of Naxos and the entire Cycladic Archipel, at 1004 m; you will enjoy panoramic view. You hike down to Agia Marina chapel and cycle back to Chora through Damalas, Kato Sangri and Galanado. Alternative tour: You take the public bus from Chora to Filoti and then go on a circular hike on Mountain Zas, passing by the cave of Zas, on the west slopes and climb till the peak. You hike down by the chapel of Agia Marina and eventually to Filoti. Return by bus to Chora. Before dinner, there is still time for swimming on the beach of Saint Georges.

Day 7: Hiking through the heart of Naxos. ''Kouros of Flerio''

In the morning you take the bus towards Chalki. After visiting this pictoresque villageet visit de ce village très pittoresque. You hike through the villages of Tsikalario and Pano Potamia to eventually reach Kourounochori. Hikghlights of the day: the medieval church of Panagia Protohroni and the Venetian mansion of Gratsia-Barotsi family, the byzantine chapel of Saint Georges Diasoritis, the ruines the medieval fortress of Epano Kastro, a cemetery of the geometric period and, near Flerio and the ancient marble quaries, an unfinished archaic sculpture of the 6th BC centurey lies. Transfer back to Chora.

Day 8: Farewell!

Today this unforgettable experience to the Greek Islands ends. You catch the ferry to Piraeus (morning or evening) where you will meet again our team. Farewell!
