Agriculture, culture and history in Southern Greece

An 8-days educational agricultural tour to important agricultural regions with great culture and history, in northern Peloponnese and Central Greece. Into these typical Mediterranean landscapes we visit olive groves and olive oil presses, vineyards and cellars, citrus cultures and plants of juice production and fruit packaging, vegetable crops as well as livestock farms and typical cheese manufacturers. In the same time we visit some of the most important archeological sites in Greece: Epidaurus with its world famous theatre and Asclepius’ sanctuary, Mycenae with the cyclopean walls and Atreus’ tomb dome, Ancient Olympia- cradle of the Olympic Games with Zeus sanctuary, Delphi with its oracle and Apollo’s sanctuary. We will also have enough time for visiting Athens, the Acropolis and Museums. From/to Athens.


Day 1: Welcome!

Arrival in Athens. Transfer to the hotel. Depending on the arrival time: orientation city walk. 1 overnight in Athens.

Day 2: Peloponnese. The agricultural area of Nemea

Morning departure. Via Corinth’s Isthmus (short stop) we pass to the Peloponnese. In the viticultural region of Nemea we visit vineyards and a cellar. Local wine testing. We visit as well the archeological site of Ancient Nemea. 2 overnights in Nafplio.

Day 3: Argolis. An agricultural area

In the region of Argolis we visit citrus crops, plants of fruit packaging and juice production, as well as an organic vegetable farm. In the city of Nafplio we will discover the history and evolution of ouzo, a Greek traditional drink made out of grapes.

Day 4: Argolis. A land of legends

Today we visit the archeological site of Mycenae and Epidaurus, prior to our departure towards the west part of Peloponnese. 1 overnight in Olympia.

Day 5: Olympia, agriculture and history. Trip to Central Greece

After visiting the archeological site of Ancient Olympia, we visit organic crops and livestock in the area. Via the straights of Rio-Antirio we accede to Central Greece. We visit the renowned olive grove of Amphissa and a local olive oil press. 1 overnight in Delphi.

Day 6: Delphi and protected designation of origin products

We visit the archeological site of Delphi, the navel of the ancient world, and the monastery of Osios Loukas. Today we will meet some local cheese with protected designation of origin. Return to Athens. 2 overnights in Athens.

Day 7: Athens

We visit the Agricultural University of Athens and then we do our final cultural tour: the Acropolis, Acropolis’ museum and National Archeological Museum of Athens.

Day 8: Goodbye!

Transfer to the airport and farewell.
